Aluminium hollow bars and rods are made up of aluminium alloy. Typical compositions include 6061 and 6082. The composition for 6061 contains 0.40-0.80% Si, 0.70-1.20% Fe, 0.15-0.40% Cu, 0.80-1.20% Mn, 1.2-1.8% Mg, 0.04-0.35% Cr, and 0.25% Zn, with the rest being aluminium. Mechanical properties of 6061 alloy include tensile strength of 290 MPa, yield strength of 240 MPa, and elongation of 12-17%. For 6082 it contains similar elements with slightly more strength range than, achieving tensile strengths to up to 340 MPa as well as yield to about 290 MPa.
